Freaks and Geeks

We haven’t updated in close to forever—sorry about that! Now that we aren’t as busy, we promise to update regularly!

What better way to restart The Slapsgivers than by reflecting on the gone-before-its-time classic Freaks and Geeks? We just finished watching Freaks for the second time, and we have to say it is quite possibly one of the best written shows we’ve encountered. It’s classic and easy to relate to (Lindsey), funny (Bill. Enough said.), cute (Sam), and while none of the characters are groundbreaking per se, they each have the ability to shock us and grow in new ways.

We won’t be doing hits and misses for this one. Call us hopelessly in love, but we just can’t see any faults in Freaks and Geeks.

-Mr. and Mrs. Weir

-Kim. Her family life made us sympathize with her, even though she was totally rude to Lindsey at first.

-Daniel. James Franco in general, actually. Especially his flirtation with the punk scene, his relationship with Kim, how we wished and still wish that he and Lindsey had gotten together.

-Nick, and how his character is so similar to Marshall’s in HIMYM. We love Jason Segel, period.

-Lindsey! We know a lot of people thought she was boring, but we related to her and we saw her as someone to admire. We just hope she found herself and is in a good place right now.

-The Eighties. We just want to rock out to the Stones right now. Or maybe we’ll pull a Lindsey and dance to the Dead.

If there was a second season, we’d definitely want to see more of Neal’s family (the scene with his mom was so, so sad), more of Daniel’s home life (the one scene with his mom and as he becomes a “punker” in his room was definitely not enough), and more Ken. We love Seth Rogen.
