With such a sad ending, we’re bound to begin our review by discussing it. Our first reaction was, understandably, of great shock. After such a sweet relationship emerged between Marshall and his dad, none of us were really expecting this to happen, not because we didn’t want it to, but because it really doesn’t see necessary for the plot or the show. What happened to Marshall’s dad was sad, but we don’t see what it will do for the future of the show. But maybe this unpredictability is what the show needs. Time will tell.
Hits:
-Barney’s Armenian doppelganger
-Sherpoopy. This was nothing groundbreaking, but it was funny.
-“Only way I do, doc. Only way I do.”
-Marshall’s reaction to the news.
-The numbers subtly placed throughout the episode, counting down to the sad ending. (We admit that we didn’t notice this at first viewing, but once you look out for it, it becomes obvious.)
Misses:
-Not really a miss, but we’ve yet to see how the bad news plays into the rest of the show. We’re excited.
Happy Slapsgiving, everyone! Enjoy some turturkeykey!

While this episode might not be comparable to the classic Slapsgiving episodes of past seasons, Blitzgiving sounds like a pretty good new tradition to start. Okay, maybe it doesn’t have the classic appeal of watching Barney getting slapped and singing perfect harmonies as he moans in pain, but Blitzgiving offers some pretty funny moments and some vital plot development.
Hits:
-“Turturkeykey”
-“Aw, man.”
-Robin’s attraction to “wangman.” We called this before it even happened.
-Zoey becoming more three-dimensional. We saw this coming ever since her and Ted became “enemies,” but we hope Zoey doesn’t become a member of the gang like the ending seemed to allude to. She’s good, and we like her, but not enough to see her full-time just yet.
-The Blitz. All three of them.
-“The Gentleman!”
-A break from focusing on Lily and Marshall’s attempts to have a baby.
Misses:
-The absence of a slap-related episode. Any allusion to it would’ve been nice.

There was no way we could choose any combination of just two of our awesome HIMYM gang. Whether it be Barney and Marshall’s consistent attempts to bring their relationship to the…next level, or Barney’s courtship of Ted to persuade him to take the GNB job, these three are our inseparable bros. And of course, even though the three battle about who of the three is the “best friend,” we know that none of the three can live without the others.
Easily the best part of Monday’s episode. To flex our TV-buff skills, we tried to see how many of the farewell one-liners we could place. Fortunately (or unfortunately, depending on your priorities), we named all but two. Before scrolling down to see the complete list, flex your skills and see how many you can name.
Complete list (in order): (asterisks on the ones we didn’t get)
